This illustrated talk by Peter Clarke, covers the building of the canal from 1789 to its closure to traffic in 1951 and its restoration to the present day. At that time the future of the Canal looked bleak yet today, seventy two years later, the Canal is restored for all of us to enjoy.

Phizzfest Annual Duck Race!
The annual Phizzfest Duck Race will take place on the Royal Canal - where else! Saturday at around 4.30pm ish at the 6th lock Ducks will be helped to the finishing line with the aid of canoeists who will be in attendance on the day. Ducks cost €3 each or 2 for €5. Look out for the mobile duck cart waddling through Phibsborough in the week before the festival where you can buy your ducks, you’ll also be able to buy them on the day.

Phizzfest Sound Walk
A sonic installation at three public spaces, will broadcast sounds of local social, cultural and historic importance into Phibsborough's streetscapes. The installation invites you to listen to found sounds and archival material alongside the live sounds of the festival, summoning and creating individual, collective and imagined memories. Sounds will be played live into the streets or located QR codes will link to others. Share your feelings and reflections at this same digital link.
